Having the fear of the Lord or to fear him? You can never have an intimate relationship with someone your scared off. For example, how could I love my husband so intimately if I was actually terrified of him?
Having The fear of the Lord is not to be terrified of Him, I am talking about a healthy fear. Its an awareness that we are in the presence of a Holy and Almighty God and that He will hold us accountable for our motives, thoughts, words, and actions.
To have the fear of God is to desire to live in agreement with His righteous standards and to honor Him in all that we do.
The fear of the Lord makes me tremble at the thought of deliberately stepping into sin. Therefore Having the fear of God is good because it saves us from giving into our old familiar sinful nature. It makes us want to respect Him, love him, obey Him, cherish Him more than anything else as we begin to love what He loves and hate what He hates.
What does God love? People. What does God hate? Sin.
